Individual event finals

We were lucky enough to qualify several gymnasts to event finals and quite a few more girls missed finals by a quarter of a tenth. On uneven bars we competed Lisa Willis, Jaime Mabray and Kari Lords. They all competed well but were unable to break in to the medals. On vault we had Kirsten Pauga, Marie Helene Claveau, and Jaime Mabray. Jaime did a very nice vault with a small hop that scored a 9.8 and a fourth place finish. Floor exercise competed Lisa Willis, Marie Helene Claveau, Jaime Mabray and Kari Lords.

All or gymnasts did fine sets but the night belonged to Kari Lords. Kari competed second to last on the floor and held on to win with a score of 9.9, beating hometown favorite Alisha Robinson. After the meet the judges commented to Dawn on how they judged the floor event based on Kari's sheer artistry. Kari drew the Hearnes Center crowd in to her routine and was treated to an ovation from the crowd and other teams of a true champion.

Beam was our final event and Kari was our only competitor. Again she captivated the crowd and her fellow competitors with a beam set more commanly seen at a national championship. Scoring a meet record setting 9.95 and the first place trophy.

This was a special night for Kari and we all learned something about how good we can be when we hold nothing back and just compete.
