We just got back to the hotel from dinner. We ate Tex-Mex at Tias (recommended by Trisha Ashton), it was great. The meet was lots of fun and the competition was great. Texas Women’s University and the Air Force Academy are fine teams. They both compete hard and with lots of class. This was one of those meets that we really struggled with the warm-up, but much to my delight the girls stayed positive and marched in ready to compete. We started out on the balance beam and had the best meet of the season. The team stuck beam. We were solid and really performed. We scored a season high 49.10 and I really thought they were underscored a bit, possibly as much as a tenth of a point per routine. Lisa Willis and Kacie Capra started with 9.75s. Trisha and Kari Lords won the event with scores of 9.875. Floor was next with another great performance, a school record 49.625. Our low counting score was a 9.9 by Lisa Willis and Kari Lords. Next competed Jaime Mabray who scored 9.925. Brogan Jacobsen and Marie Helene Claveau tied on floor winning the event with a score of 9.95. The girls looked like they were having a blast competing. Vault was our next event where we probably had our worst warm-up. Kari Lords started us off with a 9.775 with a great stuck vault. Megan Pessoa (competing on a very sore ankle) did a very nice vault and scored a 9.725. Marie-Helene struggled with her vault and scored a 9.6. The next three vaults were very well executed, each one of them receiving a 10.0 from at least one of the judges. Kirsten Pauga scored a great 9.975, followed by Trisha Ashton’s 9.95 and Jaime Mabray’s 10.0. Jaime’s score tied a long standing record held by Kristi Mc Adams. What could have been a disastrous evening on vault turned into a great performance. I guess warm-ups really don’t mean much. Our last event of the evening was bars. Lisa Willis started us off with a score of 9.85 followed by Jaime Mabray having a rare fall and scoring 9.35. Genevieve Claveau hit her routine and scored 9.75. The next three routines were again awesome Brogan Jacobsen scored 9.9 on a great set. Kacie Capra and Kari Lords tied for the gold in this meet on bars with scores of 9.95. Team wise we had a great meet scoring 197.55 which I believe is a record; I’ll have to check when we get home from Texas. |
