The first few weeks of practice have gone really well with all gymnasts not only achieving the daily tasks set for them but also exceeding them with great energy and excitement! Even Saturday early morning workout had a buzz going as the team dressed in black to support of the New Zealand rugby team (the All Blacks) in their World Cup pursuits.
‘Raising the Bar’ is in full effect with everyone continuing to put in the hard yards and pull their weight in a team that is committed to succeed.
Freshmen Maddie Johnson, Jessica Villegas, Whitney Olsen and Tara Godfrey have settled into the college lifestyle and are showing great progress in the gym. Their energy and eagerness as excited freshman has brought a breath of fresh air to the team helping to get everyone excited about this year.
The amazing bunch of sophomores consisting of Danielle, Mckell, Megan, Melissa, Kiki, Kaylee and Heidi have made tremendous improvements with their skills over the summer break, which is a major plus for this team who have set the goal to raise expectations.
Juniors Hayley Jensen and Brittany Fischer are fighters in their own right being the smallest class of the team. Even though they are few in numbers their presence is greatly felt in and out of the gym. Their commitment to help the team achieve not only in the gym but through academics proves popular amongst the coaching staff and the team.
Seniors are definitely not short of leadership qualities this year with Aimee, Dayna, Kylee and Alethea at the helm. Their positive energy, strong work ethic and spiritual strength prove to be an exemplary asset to the team. The seniors are leading by example by continuously stepping it up in the gym, doing more skills, piecing together parts and motivating everyone else to do the same so that the team functions as a unit.
Pulling together and functioning as a team has been a strong focus over the past few weeks and it’s something that we feel will get us to where we want to be, come the 2008 season. So stay with us on this preseason journey as we continue to keep you updated and informed about all the progress that this cougar squad is making.
